Gloucestershire
Warwickshire Railway The Early Years Volume 6
During the mid to late 1980s I shot around 20 hours of video of the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway. Almost all of the material is in good condition and has transfered to PC at a good quality. I used a Sony HVC4000P video camera, a Sony SL-F1UB portable video recorder, an external microphone, and some tripoding. All editing on these DVDs was carried out on a PC from the original material captured to PC. This disc was originally supposed to be extra material on disc 5 but I would not have been to maintain picture quality so I produced disc 6. This DVD consists of 4 films, more material missed from 1989 (should have been on disc 3), 1992, 1993, and 1994. 1989 - This is 12 1/2 minutes of BR 0-6-0DH D9537, Peckett 0-4-0ST John,
Bagnall 0-6-0ST Byfield No. 1, and Hunslet 0-6-0ST Robert Nelson No 4
1992 - This is 22 minutes of 1992 featuring the following locomotives, Great Western Railway 2-8-0 2857, CLass 14 Diesel Hydraulics D9539 and D9553, Class 108 DMU M51850 M52062, and BR Class 03 Diesel Shunter 03 069. There is also a little of the narrow gauge railway.
1993 - This is 18 minutes of 1993, I did little filming in this year as my camera was wearing out, but I have the following locomotives in service both ordinary and steam gala LMS 2-6-0 46521, LNER A3 Pacific 60103 Flying Scotsman, GWR 6998 Burton Agnes Hall, SR 34105 Swanage. During the Gala I filmed Flying Scotsman and Swanage double heading. The blue car was mine (and supplied lighting for the 1991 Diesel Gala). The last section features a ride behind Class 50 50 021Rodney a member of my favourite class of Diesel Locomotive, unfortunately equipment breakdown prevented videoing of from the lineside - the tape was black when viewed, and the Class 108 DMU M51850 M52062 now in lined green.
1994 - This was the last year I managed to get any material -
until recently - I now have Mini DV, this is nearly 3 minutes of
Diesel Gala featuring BR Swindon Class 42 Warship D821 Greyhound,
Brush 2 Class 31 31 123/D5541, and Brush 4 Class 47 47 105
Locations include Hailes Abbey, field south of Toddington, A46 road bridge, Winchcombe Station, Winchcombe towards tunnel, The Tunnel, and Gretton Loop If I find any more material there will be a volume 7 early days, as I have at least one more tape of the GWR but I cannot find it, this has the S160 on it and Gotherington Station. I will bolster it with some more modern material done with Mini DV, I have about half an hour from the last 2 1/2 years. I will release a 2006 DVD near the end of the year all filmed with MiniDV and in Anamorphic Widescreen. I had also considered reimporting, reediting and reencoding with the newer version of the MPEG encoder, but every time I play an old recording it gets a little worse. The DVD was edited on the PC, encoded with TMPGENC XP. with full bit rate, and duplicated with Ritek G04 or G05 media, all discs are printed.
